Custard toast is an unusual and delicious breakfast dish that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. It is made with a combination of toast, custard, and various toppings, such as fresh fruit, nuts, or chocolate chips. This easy-to-make morning treat can be enjoyed both hot and cold and offers a unique twist to classic toast recipes. Whether for a special occasion or just for a Sunday brunch, custard toast is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
To make custard toast, start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, spread your favourite type of toast on a baking sheet and bake it in the oven for 5 minutes until golden brown.
Once the toast has cooled, spread a layer of custard over it, in this recipe, we're using our fan-favourite Skinny Food Co Custard, which is sugar-free and has zero calories.
Not only is the Skinny Food Co Custard healthier than traditional powdered or fresh custard, but unlike traditional custard mixture, it's also completely vegan-friendly, making this dish 100% vegan!
It's totally up to you how you want to top your custard toast, here are some of our favourite combinations:
Fresh Fruit:
We love the combination of fresh raspberries, but feel free to choose your favourite choice of fruits and layer them on top of your bread slices.
Alternatively, you can also add it to our fruity sauces, including our best-selling Strawberry Sauce, Raspberry Ripple or even our Cherry Bakewell.
Chocolate:
Chocolate is a must-try paired with custard, whether you're wanting to use some milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips or our Skinny Food Co's Chocaholic Collection (both the bars and the sugar-free syrups!)
Nuts:
For a crunchy twist, sprinkle some chopped nuts over the custard toast. Almonds, walnuts, and pecans work wonderfully with the sweetness of the custard. Alternatively, you can also add nut butter like peanut butter or almond butter for an extra kick of flavour!
Dried Fruit:
If you want to add a bit of sweetness to the custard toast, dried fruits such as raisins or dates are the perfect addition.
When you're done topping your custard toast, pop it back in the oven for 10 minutes until the custard is set and golden brown. Serve warm or cold, and enjoy!
