The Skinny Food Co Customer Review: EP 53 Mike
These stories reflect individual customer experiences and the views expressed in the reviews are not those of the company.
Meet Mike,
I am a 33 year old Civil Servant based in N. Ireland.
For 31 of my 33 years I had always been heavier and never imagined I would be anything else. This was always around the 18-19 stone mark. During the first UK lockdown in 2020, my weight ballooned even further up to nearly 21 stone.
Shortly before the breakdown of a long-term relationship, I decided I wanted to finally do something about it. I started educating myself on terms like NEAT, EAT & TDEE and tracking what I was eating. I used a wearable tracker to see what I was actually burning in a day, and started working out on an indoor bike. I made this more engaging by attaching a tablet to it and watching shows I had on my backlog. I quickly learned the importance of finding ways to make habits and challenges more engaging, as motivation can and will run out eventually, so the more attractive something is made, the easier it is to continue doing it.
I’ve went from being almost 21 stone to now being 11.5 stone - a current loss of 9.5 stone, and I’ve felt so much better, happier and more confident than I ever have in my life.
Why did you choose to use the Skinny Food Co products?
I had a real addiction to flavoured coffees/lattes etc from coffee shops, and knew this was a major source of calories in my day. It was also a really expensive habit to have!
Finding zero or low cal alternatives to these was a game changer, I didn’t notice the difference in taste, the wide variety of flavours is something that’s definitely let me continue to enjoy my regular coffees.
What are your favourite Skinny Food Co products?
My top 3 products from Skinny Food Co are:
- Salted Caramel Barista Shot - I think the Barista shots are genius, they’re easy to carry around and have on the go. It’s saving money and calories by not buying the expensive (high in sugar) ingredients elsewhere.
- French Vanilla Barista Shot - I also love a lot of the different flavours of the Barista shots, I carry them around with me most of the time.
- Salted Caramel Spread - The Chocaholic Spreads are definitely worth a try if you like having overnight oats, porridges or sweet breakfast treats.
How has Skinny Food Co helped you achieve your goals?
With The Skinny Food, it was all about saving calories where I can, and making slight changes that add up over time. For example By allowing me to have a french vanilla coffee coming in at ~30 calories versus going to a coffee shop and getting one at over 300~ (multiple times a day), all these calorie savings added up to great weight loss over time.
What would you say to others who wish to achieve their goals?
Start small and make changes where you can. Be consistent and you will start to see big changes occurring over time.
The most important advice I’d give is what I’d love to have given to my old self - Never weigh yourself after a carb-heavy day as for every gram of carbohydrate you eat, you store 3/4g of water that can take a day or two to flush out. Before I learned about this I would have maybe had what I felt was a ‘good’ week, then eaten something like a big plate of spaghetti or pasta the night before a weigh-in, and found myself 2-3lbs heavier than the previous week. If I didn’t know about water retention, this would have destroyed my motivation and made me think ‘what’s the point if I’m being good and still putting weight on?!’ - just check again over the next few days and you’ll see that water weight flush straight out!
You don’t need to be super restrictive with your foods. It’s about changing your lifestyle not a temporary diet change. If what you eat still allows you to finish the day in a caloric deficit, you will lose weight. If you want to eat more, then move more. Just make it fit, and find the right balance for you.
Not one diet works for everyone.
