A Diabetic Christmas

A Diabetic Christmas - theskinnyfoodco

Diabetic Friendly Christmas

Christmas is renowned for its delicious, tempting and sugary foods, which can pose some difficulties when managing your diabetes.

So we thought we'd compile a list of tips and tricks to help you navigate through the festive period when living with diabetes.

1. Give yourself some TLC this season

It's important to have fun this Christmas! Spending time with family, friends and loved ones will keep you in high spirits over the festive season. Whilst this is true, it's also important to put you and your health first.

Be cautious of your blood sugar levels. While one or two high readings shouldn’t affect your long-term diabetes control, take care not to let your glucose stay high for long as you could start to feel unwell.

If you self test your blood sugar levels, commit to doing this more frequently over the festive period to ensure everything is looking balanced and normal.

2. Stay active

Continue with your exercise routine or get away for a brisk walk when your family begin to argue over monopoly.

If you have diabetes, being active makes your body more sensitive to insulin (the hormone that allows cells in your body to use blood sugar for energy), which helps manage your diabetes.

Physical activity also helps control blood sugar levels and improves cholesterol levels to help protect you against heart disease.

Even if it's for a quick 10 minute walk - keeping active and completing some form of exercise will make all the difference.

Is the weather too cold? Why not spend some time working out from the comfort of your own own. Read our Best Workouts To Do At Home blog for some exercise inspo.

3. Diet tips

Stock up on fresh vegetables, protein that isn't overly processed and watch out for hidden sugary condiments. Always look for the Sugar Wise Certification on products if you're unsure about the sugar content.

We have been very fortunate to be of assistance to lots of people living with diabetes and our products are suitable for diabetics.
