The Skinny Food Co Raises £56,00 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity

Skinny Food Co are pleased to announce that as a company, we have raised £56,000 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity. 

Yesterday, Co-Founders and Skinny Food Co Directors James Whiting and Wayne Starkey presented a cheque for £56,000 on behalf of the company to Nottingham City Hospitals Charity's Chief Executive, Barbara Cathcart. 

 As a Nottingham company, being able to support a local charity is hugely important to us. None of this would have been possible without our amazing customers - through ‘rounding up’ orders over on our website and making a donation, big or small. 

Present at the hospital was Clinical Support Worker Tracey Richards who helped to care for James and his family whilst his daughter Evie, who was born 12 weeks premature, was treated at the Neonatal Unit at Nottingham City Hospital. 

James said:  ‘I’ve seen the work that they do first hand, so to be able to raise so much money in a short space of time is a great honour. The care and support my family and I received during our time in the Neonatal Unit was nothing short of amazing- I now have a happy and healthy five-month-old daughter.

We’re so pleased to be able to give to a local charity. The donation is going to a great cause, helping different departments throughout the hospitals.‘

Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We’d like to give our sincere thanks to The Skinny Food Co and all its customers for raising this truly remarkable amount of money for Nottingham’s hospitals. The staff and patients at our hospitals have had an extremely difficult year, and it means so much to see a local company supporting its local NHS in this way. The money raised will make a huge amount of difference to patients and staff at our hospitals, by helping to fund added extras such as specialist equipment and enhanced facilities, which would otherwise not be possible.”     

Nottingham Hospitals Charity funds a range of projects at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust – which includes Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham City Hospital, Nottingham Children’s Hospital and Ropewalk House Hearing Centre.

Over the past year the Charity has helped to provide wellbeing facilities for NHS staff during the battle against coronavirus, such as indoor rest areas, outdoor garden areas, sleep pods and wellbeing centres where staff could go to take a break and get peer support from trained volunteers. The Charity has also recently helped fund a £2.9million intra-operative MRI scanner, which has revolutionised the treatment of children with brain tumours. The scanner can be used during brain surgery to determine whether the whole tumour has been removed – allowing surgeons to immediately return to theatre if needed, rather than waiting for a post-operative scan and potentially more surgery further down the line.
