6 Healthy Foods That Are All The Rage Right Now

We’ve all heard the term ‘superfoods’ over the years, but are these foods really that super? Our latest blog post is here to educate you on the foods that are all the rage right now, and rightly so!

In an article released by Health Line earlier this year, they shared 16 superfoods that are really worthy of their title and we’ve picked out some of the most accessible from the list that are backed by science.

But let’s start with the cold, hard, facts. There is no such thing as a ‘superfood’. However, there are a whole load of foods that are most definitely rich in the types of nutrients that can positively affect your health. We’ll call these, healthy foods. So, let’s get started with the list so you can add these items to your weekly shopping list if they aren’t already on it!

1. Leafy Greens
Kale is one of those crazes that came about a few years ago and never really went away. However, green leafy vegetables provide a superb source of nutrients such as zinc, folate, calcium, iron, vitamin C, fibre and Magnesium.

Add some of these to your shopping list: Kale, spinach, lettuce, collard greens.

2. Berries
Berries are one of those foods that are consistently mentioned when it comes to healthy eating and even skincare. When it comes to vitamins, minerals and antioxidants some claim Berries are the powerhouse.

Next time your shopping pick up: Raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, blueberries or cranberries.

3. Avocado
Popularised by millennials on Instagram (#Guilty) but backed by science, avocados are rich in many nutrients including healthy fats, fibre and vitamins and minerals. If you’ve been sceptical of Avos until now, give them a try!

4. Herbal tea
We’ve seen a rise in herbal teas over the past few years, especially with detox teas and slimming teas hitting the market it can be confusing to determine which teas are actually beneficial.

Well, the answer is Green Tea, the holder of a wide array of medicinal properties such rich in antioxidants and strong anti-inflammatory effects.

5. Turmeric
Turmeric might not look like the most appetising food to add into your regime, but it has become majorly mainstream this year. Turmeric is packed full of powerful medicinal properties which some claim to have anti-inflammatory properties. 2018 has also seen a rise in Turmeric used in skincare regimes.

Now for the big one of 2018…

6. Plant-based protein

This year has seen veganism and plant-based diets all over the press and social media. Mainstream restaurants are offering more options than ever, and chefs are embracing ingredients like tofu, tempeh and quinoa in place of typical meat options. Thanks to more and more meat-free options and plant-based products becoming readily available in 2018, there are sure to be a lot more meat-free days in the future!

If you’re considering a meat-free month, Veganuary or your very own concept let us know on social media, so we can keep up with the latest food trends and crazes! We want to see your recipes, so if you incorporate any of these foods into your diet use the #NotGuilty or #SkinnyFoodCo.
